Automatic Fire Alarm System

An automatic fire alarm system (ATS) is a set of devices designed to detect a fire at an early stage, alert the occupants of the building, and transmit the alarm to the rescue service.

The system consists of fire detectors, a central control unit, alarm devices, and a connection to the rescue service. The ATS must be inspected and maintained regularly to ensure its reliability.

The main components of an ATS include:

  • The Smoke Sensor — Reacts to the effect of smoke particles in the air. It is the most common type of fire detector used in commercial and residential buildings.
  • The Temperature Sensor — Reacts to a rise in temperature above a predetermined level. Used in areas where smoke detectors may give false alarms.
  • The Manual Call Point — A device that allows building occupants to manually trigger the fire alarm system.
  • The Central Control Unit — The brain of the ATS system. It receives signals from detectors, processes them, and activates the appropriate response.

Maintenance Requirements

According to Estonian fire safety regulations, the ATS must be inspected at least once every quarter. The inspection includes testing all detectors, verifying the connection to the rescue service, and checking battery backup systems.

Tondi Tulekaitse provides comprehensive ATS maintenance services including quarterly inspections, annual full system tests, and 24/7 emergency support.
